AI visibility is what AI assistants say about your brand in category answers: whether you are mentioned, whether you are recommended, whether you are cited, and how you are described. DataEase AI scores it 0-100 across four pillars.
"We had a beautiful site and a 74 Brand Readiness, so we assumed we were fine. Then we measured AI visibility and found we were named in a handful of the 40 category questions we track, and recommended in almost none of them. Readiness was never the problem."
DataEase AI measures AI visibility as four separate things, because a brand can do well on one and badly on the rest. They are listed here in order of importance.
A search ranking is a position in a list that a human then chooses from. AI visibility is a share of a written answer that has already made the choice. There is no page two, no long tail of blue links to scroll past, and typically only two or three brands survive into the sentence the buyer reads.
That changes what you are optimising. A ranking rewards the page. An AI answer rewards the entity, assembled from every source the model has seen about you, most of which you do not own. It also changes measurement: a ranking is stable enough to check once, while an AI answer is regenerated on every prompt, so AI visibility has to be sampled repeatedly across the same question set before a number means anything.
| Aspect | Search ranking | AI visibility |
|---|---|---|
| Unit of measurement | Position of a URL | Presence of a brand in the answer text |
| Room at the top | Ten organic slots | Two or three brands named |
| What gets credit | The page that ranks | The entity, built from third-party sources |
| Stability | Reasonably stable between crawls | Regenerated on every prompt |
| How you fix it | Improve the page | Improve what the sources say about you |
No. Brand readiness is setup and AI visibility is outcome. Brand readiness asks whether a machine can resolve, parse and trust you at all. AI visibility asks what the assistants actually said in the answers they generated this week.
The order matters. A brand with weak brand readiness can occasionally get named because a strong third-party source carries it, but it will not hold the position. A brand with strong readiness and no citations will be perfectly parseable and still absent. Readiness is what you control directly; visibility is what you earn.
| Concept | What it covers |
|---|---|
| AI Visibility | Outcome - what AI assistants say about you, scored across mentions, recommendation, citations and sentiment |
| Brand Readiness | Setup - whether machines can resolve, parse and trust you, scored across 7 pillars |
| Brand Presence Score | The rollup that combines AI assistants, citations, search, answer engines and perception into one number |
| Mention Rate | A single pillar inside AI visibility - how often you are named |
| Answer Engine Optimization | The practice - the work you do to move AI visibility |

Monthly at minimum, weekly if you are actively publishing. AI answers are regenerated on every prompt, so a single scan is a snapshot. DataEase AI compares your last 6 scans so you can separate a real trend from model noise.
