Definition

The Brand Presence Score is the DataEase AI rollup of how visible a brand is across the whole discovery surface. It combines five components into a single 0-100 number placed in one of five tiers, from Invisible to Authoritative.

Example in context

"We opened at 18, which is Invisible, and it stung. Six months later we were at 44 and Established. Nothing dramatic happened in any single week. Two of the five components moved steadily and dragged the other three along behind them."

Why the score is a rollup and not one metric

Every single presence metric we have used has a failure mode. Rankings look stable while a category quietly moves into AI answers. AI answers swing week to week because they are regenerated on every prompt. Citation counts reward volume over quality unless you filter hard for authority. Sentiment flatters anyone nobody talks about. Each of the five components corrects for a blind spot in the others, and the rollup is what survives.

The five components of the Brand Presence Score

DataEase AI measures each of the five separately, then rolls them up. They are listed here in the order they matter.

We deliberately do not publish the component weights. Weights invite gaming, and the moment a number becomes a target it stops describing reality. What we will say plainly is the ordering above: AI assistants first, citation density second, perception health last.

Brand Presence Score tiers

ScoreTierWhat it means
0-20InvisibleAI assistants do not name you and almost nothing third-party exists. The normal starting point for a brand under a year old.
21-40EmergingYou appear occasionally, usually in one channel only, and usually far down the answer.
41-60EstablishedReliable presence in at least two components. You show up for the obvious category questions but lose the comparison ones.
61-80StrongNamed and recommended across most of your question set, with a citation base that holds the position.
81-100AuthoritativeA default answer in your category. Competitors are compared against you rather than the other way round.

Tiers move slowly and unevenly, and that is by design. A brand almost never climbs a tier because of one launch. It climbs because a third-party source published something substantial, then a second source echoed it, then the assistants started reaching for both. Expect the AI assistant component to move first and the citation base to lag it by weeks, which is also the order in which the work has to happen.

What is a good Brand Presence Score?

Anything in the Strong tier, 61-80, means you are a reliable presence in your category rather than an occasional one. Most funded startups sit in Emerging or Established. Invisible, 0-20, is the normal starting point for a brand under a year old.
